How can you get involved and advocate for high quality cancer care?

Federal funding is critical to the advancement of medical research in the United States. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), made up of 27 different institutes and centers, is our nation’s medical research agency.

For more than 100 years, research supported by the NIH has spurred scientific discoveries that increase knowledge and save lives. Like other organizations, though, the NIH must work within its budget—and from 2003 to 2015, its budget failed to keep pace with inflation, due to budget cuts and sequestration. Last year, Congress approved the first significant NIH funding increase in more than a decade. Regular funding increases are essential in order for NIH to continue its life-saving work in cancer prevention, detection and treatment.

Let your policymakers know that you—their constituent—support robust, sustained and predictable funding increases for the NIH.

This fall, join with hundreds of other advocates at the Rally for Medical Research Hill Day to raise awareness about the importance of our nation’s continued investment in medical research. Patients, caregivers, clinicians, researchers and other champions will meet with their elected representatives to ask them to prioritize NIH funding in 2017 and beyond. The Rally for Medical Research will be held on September 21 and 22, 2016 in Washington, DC.

Never visited your representative before? No problem! Attend the Capitol Hill Day training session on September 21. After your training, rally with other attendees on Capitol Hill. Then visit your representative on September 22. For more information and to register, visit http://rallyformedicalresearch.org/Pages/default.aspx.
